I was watching a TV programme where they were
discussing how competition was making the choice to
purchase being influenced more and more by the price,
and the challenge for producers was finding a way to
deal with it. The example was a pack of 8 pork
sausages.
With the cost of the raw materials rising, a decision had
to be made to keep the price of the sausages the same,
by either reducing the number of sausages to seven,
reducing the size of the sausages, or reducing the
quality by reducing the amount of pork and making it
up with fat and cereal. The other alternative was to
increase the price, which was not an option.
WE HAVE A Koi pellets look pretty much the same, with some
CHOICE OF exceptions, I know nothing about the production of Koi
food, but I do know the difference between a cheap
WHAT WE EAT, budget sausage and an artisan pork sausage from the
BUT OUR KOI local butcher.
We have a choice of what we eat, but our Koi can only
CAN ONLY EAT eat what we feed them. The last thing I would do is
WHAT WE make any suggestions. I suppose it all comes down to
personal experience, choice and trust of the
FEED THEM manufacturer of the product.
There are many brands of Koi food on the market, I
published two informative articles by Dr. David Pool
which are completely unbiased as he is no longer in the
industry. These articles appeared in Issues 43 and 44.
I also published an article written by the late Mike van
Zijl in Issue 47 who was a director of NEDKOI who
produce ProBites Koi food. Again, this is unbiased
detailed information.
Below are links to all three articles which I hope will
help you understand the make up of Koi food, when to
feed them – and why, and leave you to see what is on
offer, so that you can make your own personal choice.
