Mark explained why he ■ Next, time for some fresh air and out to the mud
chose the site for the farm ponds themselves where Mark ran through everything
and how the water is
extracted from the brook. from why they selected the site for the farm, the
construction of the ponds and why they were built
and run the way they were, along with how water is
extracted from the brook (the Cuttlebrook) and the
cycle it goes through in readiness for the introduction
of fry through to when the ponds are eventually
drained (and how the build allows him to catch the
final Koi that escape the net).
■ Following a brief break in the shade and taking on
water, the tour continued with Mark taking us back
into the sales area and then on into the growing
facilities with an explanation of what each is used for
and how the numbers get cut back time and time
again so the farm is keeping what it believes are the
best Koi to grow on – their tategoi.
■ Whilst we were completing the final stages of the tour
and viewing the best Koi on the farm, Sam and Lewis
had kindly netted up the sales ponds of smaller Koi in
the sales ponds that those readers who have visited
or seen on Sam’s excellent YouTube videos will be
familiar with and it will be no surprise that nets and
bowls came out and many Koi were purchased. Of
course, the larger Koi for sale were also viewed and I
may have come home with a rather nice 43cm female
Karashi (and 3 small Koi for the grow on to distract
the wife from the bigger purchase).
