YORKSHIRE KOI
CLUB MEMBERS’
SHOW 2026
Jim Shaw.
This year’s Members’ Show was organised by Tony
Brown with Allan Tait kindly judging again this year,
assisted by my good friend, Lofty, who carried out the
benching and assisted in all of those other tasks, and
myself taking secondary photos of the Koi.
The format followed previous years where our team of
four travel to each Club member’s pond, net their Koi,
measure, bench them and photograph them, and Alan
views them in the bowl and will make his final decision
at home later, with the aid of the photos to act as a
reminder. Each member can enter up to five Koi. This
year 14 members had entered their Koi, so there were
70 Koi to be judged, which meant the visits to members’
ponds were, as usual, carried out over a weekend.
FOURTEEN OF Me and Lofty made an early start and travelled to Tony
OUR MEMBERS Brown’s home in Rotherham to set off in his car to our
TOOK PART IN first pond, Melvyn Platts, in Barnsley. Upon our arrival,
Melvyn served us a monster full English breakfast to set
WHO IS OUR KOI CLUB us up for what was going to be a very busy day. Then
we went into his garden and benched his Koi and Allan
GOING TO MEMBERS’ judged each of his 5 Koi, and there were some stunners!

very difficult to avoid getting all those reflections in the
water, but we did our best).
We thanked Melvyn for his hospitality and left to visit
Noman Hansrot, in Dewsbury. Noman is relatively new
to keeping Koi but has developed a good knowledge of
the hobby and has some stunning large Koi. He has
