M artin Symonds phoned me and told me he was
producing a new film about the history of the Koi
industry in Japan, from seeing Koi for the first time as
a young boy in 1967 through to the present day.
Martin explained how he had followed his passion for
Koi over the last six decades, which resulted in him
becoming the biggest importer of Japanese Koi
into Europe, and being the first westener to live in
Mushigame before becoming one of the largest
exporters of Japanese Koi in the world.
This documentary includes interviews with many Koi
breeders, past and present, and other personalities he
has met over the years. While discussing it he told me
2026 KOI that he had 20 Hikari Koi calendars with large photos of
Koi and asked me if I thought any of my readers in the
CALENDAR UK would like one.
