eDNA Mainstream/
Fish Treatment Limited
eDNA is an exciting new development for the detection of
environmental DNA to look for the presence of specific organisms
in a water body. It works by taking water samples from the site
and sending them to a specialised laboratory which extracts and
amplifies the DNA of the target species. It is a very specialised
analysis with a high level of accuracy, and potentially has a wide
range of applications.
What it can do is find minute traces of the target organisms with a
high degree of accuracy.
Fish Treatment Ltd in collaboration with Mainstream Fisheries Ltd
have been involved in the development of unique eDNA testing
both in the Coarse Fish Industry and in Ornamental fish, and have
acquired exclusive access to a state of the art specialist laboratory
with ISO 9001:2015 accreditation.
As far as Ornamental Fish are concerned, the technology
we are offering will indicate the likely presence of
both Gyrodactylus species (skin flukes) and Dactylogyrus species
(gill flukes) as well as KHV and CEV (Koi Sleepy Disease).
